November Ruminations

"This thing scrubs speed like you wouldn’t believe. The chassis is sublime. The ride is incredibly comfortable, the damping just about perfect."

Two years.

Yep, into this journey now for well over two years! We put our first orders in for Porsches back in November of 2020. Of course some of this delay was caused by us switching models and dealers in the summer of 2021, but all of that has been mentioned in this blog earlier.

Where we are now is waiting, still, for allocation news. The work we've done to keep track of allocations through the various forums has given us a relatively clear picture of the state of Canadian allocations/ As in, there's haven't been any. Some onesies here and there, but no influx of quarterly allocations at all (like there used to be pre-Covid-Ukraine-Felicity Ace). Not since Nov 2021 it seems, has there been a batch of allocations for mid-engined sports cars in Canada.

Just a perfect storm essentially, and I feel rather like a broken record continuing to write about the waiting. We're now the longest-waiting guys we have been tracking, and it seems that occasional allocations are starting to pop up in the US here and there. We did hear some scuttlebutt that the next "round" of allocations is due in the US in December, so....maybe that will mean something here too. I mean, it's all anecdotal right now, but at some point, surely, Canada has to be recognized as at least worthy of *some* allocations for 718s.

A number of 250 allocations coming for Canada has been thrown around, which, if true, would be very good news as we feel that would mean we were highly likely to get a couple of those, There are only 20 or so dealers in Canada, and given our position at our dealership, one would hope we fit the bill for receiving the next ones they get.

There was another piece of reasonably good news in Porsche announcing new trim package versions of the base 718 Boxster and Cayman. Essentially a few options and special wheels and paint - the kind of thing manufacturers often do towards the end of a model's lifecycle. While it does signify likely the ending of the 718 line in 982 guise, it's not something we didn't anticipate in the next few years. The fact that they are putting out those new "style" editions starting to go on sale not until 2023, well, that bodes well for the platform being around for at least a couple more years. I mean, they aren't even in the configurator yet...

Surely we will get ours at some point in there?

Surely?
