First Memories

"A masterful balance between performance and drivability, and one of the most well-rounded sports cars that you can buy today at any price."

Remembering back to the first Porsche I drove, a first generation Boxster way back in 2000.

Andrew and I had rented one in Las Vegas and driven it out to Red Rocks and the Valley of Fire State Park to put it through its paces. It was good to reflect back on it a few years later, remembering the differences between it and the S2000. The mid-engined placement, obviously. The growly flat-six compared to the high-strung inline-four of the S2000.

I remember at the time thinking the fit and finish left a lot to be desired in what I considered to be a very expensive car at the time, and more so because it was a hallowed Porsche - a name that rang in my ears as the pinnacle of driving excellence, purity, and high-end-ness.

Thinking back on it, it didn't seem on another level from the mighty masterpiece from Honda that I was so lucky to be able to experience and own years later. The Guards Red was gorgeous. The tan interior less so IMHO. But it was a fun, tossable 2-seat roadster, so really, what's not to love?
